The History of the Pre-Physician Assistant Conference

In 2019, the Pre-PA Society founded and hosted Nevada's first Pre-Physician Assistant Conference aimed at informing students on the PA profession and the PA programs available to them. Every year there are discussion panels covering topics such as but not limited to: PA school tuition, personal statement advice, admissions board interviews, and the specialty options post graduation. Attendees have the opportunity to speak with numerous PA schools and alumni PA-C's who are currently practicing medicine in the local Reno area. Every year we have an amazing turnout of PA schools and continue to grow in numbers of programs in attendance.

In 2023, the Pre-Health Advisory Council was formed as a way to unite all the different pre-health tracks and clubs on campus at UNR. Since creating this council, the Pre-PA Society has partnered with numerous Pre-Health Club's leadership allowing the once "Pre-PA Conference" to expand into the now well known "Pre-Health Conference". By creating a more interdisciplinary event, we encourage students to exlpore all the options healthcare has to offer to ensure that being a PA is the right route for the student. Our conference has now expanded from 10 original programs and 150 students in attendance (2021) to almost 60 programs and 400 students on average! The partners of the Pre-Health Advisory Council and Pre-Health Conference are:  The Pre-Pharmacy Club, Nevada Pre-Dental Society, Pre-Physical Therapy Club, Pre-Optometry Club, Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, Nevada Alpha Chapter, Pre-Occupational Therapy Club, Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), and the Public Health Coalition Club.
